An American teenager who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kung-fu classics makes an extraordinary discovery in a Chinatown pawnshop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King. This is a fun movie with some of the best martial arts/Hong Kong highwire that I have seen in some time. I never "loved" Jet Li, but I always admired his Kung Fu-in this movie I felt a bit more like that affection for him that I and most of the world have for Jackie Chan. He gets to play several characters but I just felt like roaring when he put his Monkey King thing in action! His portrayal of the Immortal Monkey King just gave me big smiles. I'm not sure why Jackie was not given the part since The Monkey King should be Jackie's middle name. Maybe its too obvious a choice. Anyway, I agree with the other reviewer, this one gets a bit much violence for young kids under twelve? and takes an awkward teen romance ride that left my stomach c
