Editorial Review for Sassafras – by Steve Rocca
The Scene
Little things matter here: the private raised platforms that hug the red-brick walls; the live piano playing that sets the right mood; even the discreet silhouettes of ladies' stockings and men's pants that differentiate the bathrooms. With seating for just 40 or so people, intimacy is as assured as is the prompt individual service and the old-fashioned charm.
The Food
Expect a pleasant little twist--subtle yet savory--on everything you order here. Caesar salad is accented with Asiago cheese and jumbo shrimp; a side of succotash is enlivened by diced, peeled tomatoes. Sesame-crusted chicken breast with honey mango soy glaze and the bourbon-molasses pork tenderloin promise two pleasant sugar highs. Torn between dessert and an after-dinner drink? The bread pudding with bourbon sauce and the black martini of espresso with Godiva liqueur, let you live the best of both worlds.

My husband and I had the most wonderful dining experience at Sassafras. We highly recomend the martini's. The location is so close to the Portsmouth/Norfolk ferry you could walk to it, and find yourself dancing in Norfolk after a delicious dinner at Sasafrass.
Pros: Good Parking, Punctual Service, Devine Food
