Editorial Review for Foggy Point Bar & Grill – by Steve Rocca
The Scene
A dimly lit chandelier with gold extensions hangs over maroon-and-white striped upholstery. High ceilings and individual booths ensure patrons a grand but subdued evening out. Although only diners facing the Elizabeth River get a view of the boats and the boardwalk passersby, everyone gets an eyeful of the maritime via paintings, drawings and even building plans of ships that line every wall.
The Food
Zesty starters range from a shrimp cocktail accented with linguini and raspberry vinaigrette to a spicy black bean and ham soup sweetened with baby carrots. Main courses are uniformly substantial: pancake-sized crab cakes that don't skimp on the meat; two hefty pork chops glazed with a sharp Granny Smith apple topping; steak filet with a rich burgundy and roasted shallot sauce that does double duty as a dip for your bread. For dessert, the key lime pie is tart and light, while a raspberry-inflected, white chocolate cheesecake is the undisputed house specialty.
