Editorial Review for The Taphouse Grill – by Mike Connolly
The Scene
Dark wood and exposed brick account for much of the design. The main room is split in two. The front is reserved for non-smoking diners; the back contains a wide wooden bar, beer taps and is open to smokers. Behind the kitchen is a hidden poolroom with a jukebox. In the warmer months, folks congregate on the outdoor patio.
The Draw
The Taphouse hosts live music fairly often--usually local rock and pop groups, although smaller out-of-state acts have been known to stop in for a couple of sets. As to beer, domestic brands are kept to a minimum as an impressive selection of the more popular microbrews is always in stock. (The staff is always ready to recommend something different if you're in the mood to experiment, and their suggestions never fail to please.) Mixed drinks are also available.

I go for the beer, the food is pretty good but nothing to write home about. Beer selection is about the best in Hampton Roads with the exception of the Bier Garden. It's a great place to go and just hang out with friends.
Pros: BEER!!
Cons: Park across the street and pray when you're crossing...

They have a great beer selection; about 44 beers on tap, and 50 more in bottles. Their happy hour is perfect for meeting friends and reviewing the day. The food is quite good, too. For entertainment, the small place is more suitable for vocal acts rather than heavily amped rock bands.
Pros: Can't beat the beer selection; really friendly place, too
Cons: Really noisy when they crank up the live music
