My fiancé and I are from Texas and visit the VA Beach area often. We first went to Plaza Azteca in January 2008. Although we had an unfriendly waiter, we were impressed with most of the food (especially the white cheese dip) and enjoyed possibly the best margarita I ever had. We returned when we were back in town the following May and had an all-around negative experience. 1) The queso was brought to us in a bowl that was only half full of the cheese. The bowl is already rather small and I didn't feel like we were getting our money's worth with the amount they gave us. 2) When we placed our order I asked our waitress how much it would be for some guacamole on the side. I was ordering a plate with a taco and like putting some guacamole on my taco. When she told me it would be $3.49 I told her that I didn't want the dip, I just wanted a small side of it. She told me they could not do that! They offer on the menu several sides such as sour cream, jalapeños, etc. for an extra $1 but guacamole was not an option. I started to get frustrated and showed her with my fingers just how small of an amount I would like, and she just said "nope, we only have one size." I was absolutely appalled as I have never been to a restaurant that was so unaccommodating. I would have appreciated a "let me check to see if there's anything we can do" but was completely denied what I wanted. 3) In Texas cheese enchiladas are very popular, so when the menu said that my combination plate came with an "enchilada" I carelessly assumed that would be a cheese enchilada. It turned out to be beef. I was not in the mood for beef. They should be specifying on their menu what kind of enchilada you're getting, or be asking you what kind you want! Not something the waitress bothered to do. And the sauce they put on top of the enchilada was yucky. If I ever come back to this restaurant it will be to have their margaritas only. I will eat at a more friendly and accommodating establishment in the future.
Pros: awesome margaritas and cheese dip, good atmosphere
Cons: unaccommodating, sometimes slow service

We've visited a lot of places locally & nationwide and Plaza Azteca's Frozen Margaritas are the best. We actually had to send our drinks back, at a popular restaurant chain who confessed they were using a mix. There is a difference!! The mixed fajitas with steak, pork, shrimp, & chicken are excellent. The portions are generous too. One Plaza Azteca tasty Margarita will actually leave you with a buzz even after your meal is done. My husband who's a drinker too- agrees. They don't skimp. I've been a customer for over 10 years. My sons, now in their early & mid 20's still go because as boys they always loved the chicken nachos (I bet they've graduated to drinking their own margarittas by now).
Pros: Strength & flavor of the frozen drinks
Cons: They put you in the mood, but you can't dance there
